Cut off from Being,

the mind suffocates joy

with categories.

I can see how ego might suffocate a simple joy or happiness with category (or concept for that matter)

…But mind.

I do not follow 'cut off from being'.  Surely to 'just be' is the way best described -cutting of from thus implies 'not being', does it not?

I would enjoy hearing more about this.  Put my questioning to rest, if you will.

Hi Zazen.

OK, the problem here is the extreme condensation of language required by the “haiku” form.

So you have to read between the lines and understand that the implication is: mind as in intellect, if it is cut off from simple awareness/ Being, stifles the joy of Presence by perceiving things in terms of their labels/ categories, rather than as simply what they are in essence, arising in Being.

From the perspective of Absolute Trurth, nothing can be “cut off from Being” because everything arises in the Now. However, if our perception is dominated by ego/intellect/mind, then things are perceived as separate/Other/apart. Of course, as soon as energy manifests in any form, it is automatically within the realm of duality, and opposites/qualities. The only significant change is in our awareness. As an eminent physicist ( whose name I've forgotten) once said,”We can never know reality, only our perception of it,” which is quite a Berkleian point of view.

Cheers,
